365 days ago: Flying over Milford Sound and a serious hamburger

New Zealand, South Island, Queenstown.

Memories:

  • One day before we started walking the Milford Track we flew over it. We were aware of the frequent rains and wanted to see it at least once in good weather. The pilot of our Cessna said that day it was the best weather in Queenstown in 13 years. So, there we were flying over the most fantastic landscape: 1000 metres and higher peaks covered by snow, raising directly from the deep blue ocean. It felt so near, like we could touch it. But then so far away, because it was so unreal.
  • We flew back from Milford Te Anau with a very interesting couple. They happened to be the Swedish writer Håkan Nesser and his wife Elke. I remember he impressed me because he knew the Basque writer Bernardo Atxaga. Such a small world, this one.
  • The absolute relax having lunch sitting in the park. We ate a serious hamburger from Fergburger. It is really a special one. No wonder the long queue waiting in front of the entrance.
